It’s a Barbie world: 13 of the best brand collaborations

In case you missed it, we’ve been living in a Barbie world for a while now.

Barbie owner Mattel has ensured that everyone’s world has turned pink by the time the highly anticipated movie starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling finally hits the big screen.

The group has forged more than 100 partnerships with everyone from big brands including Zara and Primark to even the unlikeliest of names, such as Burger King and Uno. And if there was any doubt about the demand, many of the collections have sold out within hours of going live.

To celebrate the release of Barbie, Retail Gazette has rounded up some of the best retail collaborations.

Zara x Barbie

Zara-Barbie-2023-Collection

Zara’s dreamy Barbie collection dropped at the beginning of the week, with some products selling out within hours of going live.

The impressive 60-something-piece range spans across all of the retailer’s departments from clothing and accessories to homewares and stationery.

Arguably one of the biggest and quirkiest out of all the Barbie collaborations, shoppers can get their hands on anything from pink silk lingerie and leather B-shaped bags to pillows,  notepads and candles in the shape of roller skates.

It’s even added in-store activations for shoppers to take pictures in a life-size Barbie toy box.

Primark x Barbie

Primark has outdone itself once again with its latest Barbie branded collection, featuring 85 themed products.

Packed with plenty of pink and neon green, the edit spans across womenswear, menswear, kidswear and home.

Shoppers can snap up affordable Barbie t-shirts, bucket hats and lounge sets as well as velour hoodies, jelly sandals and a throw blanket.

Selfridges x Barbie

Barbie fever has officially hit Selfridges, with several activations live around its Oxford Street store and a pop-up at its Manchester location.

Running until 29 July, The Corner Shop has been given a Barbie Dreamhouse-inspired makeover offering bookable Barbie inspired hair and nail services, photo moments and a host of Barbie and Ken worthy shoppable items.

The space has been separated by makeshift wooden walls and oversized household accessories decorate the area. The luxury department store has also used the pop-up to offer items available through its Reselfridges and rental programme.

Gap x Barbie

Gap x Barbie

Gap leaned heavily into its American collegiate roots for its Barbie collection, which also included menswear and kidswear.

The retailer said it was “entering its pink era” as it released a selection of logo hoodies, dresses, caps, bright pink and white graphic t-shirts adorned with the Barbie branding, and a ‘KEN’ t-shirt.

Despite limited pieces of collection left available, the collab failed to excite some fans with shoppers complaining about its “basic” design.

Asos x Barbie

Not one to miss out on a pop culture moment, Asos made sure it earned a place in the Barbie-mania craze.

The retailer’s design team have reimagined the flirty light pink colour palette for its womenswear collection, which also includes unisex styles, with the Barbie logo taking centre stage on several t-shirts.

The 11-piece collection ranges from logo-clad socks to bold Barbie-face clad denim trousers and co-ords.

Boohoo x Barbie

Boohoo has even gotten in on the action, releasing its own limited edition collection designed to help you “live your dream life”.

The collection, available in sizes 6 to 28, has been created with the iconic pink colour palette with hints of whites and blacks.

The fast fashion retailer has you covered with everything from graphic baby tees to printed swimwear with embroidered detailing and diamanté finishes to retro sunglasses.

Crocs x Barbie

The fastest growing brand of 2022 released its Barbie range last week in the US and sold out within hours.

The collection, which is already available on Zalando and Schuh, is expected to hit Crocs’ UK online store on 24 July.

Shoppers can bling out their existing Crocs with Barbie charms or snap up a pair of pink Cozzy sandals and crush clog. However, if you miss out of the official collection, there’s an equally drool-worthy pink selection of Crocs.

Aldo x Barbie

Aldo x Barbie

Aldo has taken inspiration from the magical world of Barbie with its branded collection supersizing her signature style.

The footwear retailer’s limited edition collection is a throwback to the beloved items that were once on rotation in a little girls’ dress up wardrobe.

Fans can get their hands on diamante bags, blinged out satin and perspex pumps as well as frameless pink tinted sunglasses.

It would not be a true Barbie collaboration roundup without mentioning the new collection – and equally impressive marketing campaign – from luggage company Béis.

Founded by Pretty Little Liars actress Shay Mitchell, the cult US favourite has released a magenta pink travel set to ensure you also travel in style just like Barbie.

The marketing campaign alone is worth spotlighting with Mitchell mimicking the iconic shot of Barbie (played by Robbie) stepping out of her pink heels and then standing in a perfect high heel position for the Béis advert.

Typo x Barbie

The retailer has released its own fun capsule collection featuring mugs, cushions, socks and tumblers with the Barbie branding.

Typo has also put together a Barbie-themed edit for its online store that includes official merch and similar pink-inspired products.
