Tesco launches food bank donation bags to stores over summer

Tesco has launched food bank donation bags across 300 of its stores, to help food banks reach increased demand over the summer.

Bags from the grocery giant are pre-filled with the products most needed by food banks and charities, such as pasta, pulses and pasta sauce.

Shoppers can collect the bags when they enter the supermarket, which will typically cost them around £3.50.

The bags are available at the selected stores from 24 July to 3 September.

Tesco head of community Claire de Silva explained: “With more people using food banks we wanted make donating as easy as possible for customers that want to support their local community”.

The bags come as charities the Trussell Trust and FareShare report an increasing demand for food.

The Trussell Trust CEO Emma Revie said: “Over the last year, food banks have faced record levels of need and, while donations have increased by 18%, our network distributed 37% more emergency food parcels than in 2021/2022”.

From 24 July to 6 August and 28 August to 3 September, shoppers who want to offer financial support can also round up their grocery bill to the nearest pound.
