First look: Footasylum opens Oxford Street flagship ‘jam packed with retail technology’

Footasylum has opened the doors to its new flagship store at 73-89 Oxford Street, as it continues to see strong demand for its branded streetwear offering.

The 20,000 sq ft store, previously occupied by New Look, trades across two floors, with additional customer service and click-and-collect lockers located in the store’s basement.

The fashion and sportswear retailer said there has been “a significant investment in the store’s digital capabilities in order to create a mobile-first customer journey that seamlessly connects Footasylum’s online and in-store offering.”

The flagship houses 100 motion screens displaying digital signage within in order to provide an even more immersive in-store experience.

The Oxford Street opening comes as the business continues to go from strength to strength under the ownership of private equity firm AureliuS, which snapped up the footwear retailer in August 2022.

The new flagship store is the latest in a line of Footasylum site openings, as the Company continues its ambitious expansion programme.

It will open a new 6,000 sq ft store in the Watford Atria shopping centre next month, having expanded its shops at Westfield Stratford City and Lakeside in Essex which opened last week, with further extensions planned at Birmingham Bullring and White Rose shopping centre in Leeds.

Retail Gazette caught up with CEO and chairman Barry Bown earlier this week to discuss the new flagship and how the retailer is continuing to bolster its position as a top retail destination for streetwear and sportswear.

Bown said: “Oxford Street is by far and away the UK’s most important and sought after physical retail location. As well as attracting hundreds of millions of shoppers every year, it is also a must-visit for any global brand seeking to understand the UK’s fashion landscape.

“Having such an impressive and prominent store on Oxford Street will be pivotal to showcasing our incredible proposition to the whole world and internationalising the Footasylum brand.”
