Tesco to hire 30,000 extra staff this Christmas

Tesco has kicked off its festive recruitment drive to fill 30,000 temporary roles across the UK to help meet demand ahead of the busy Christmas period.

The supermarket said the jobs are mainly in its Extra and Superstores and could involve working on checkouts, picking orders for home delivery or replenishing the store across early morning, day or evening shifts.

It added that there may be opportunities for the seasonal staff to apply for permanent roles available in stores once the Christmas rush comes to an end.

Tesco people director James Goodman said: “This is a great opportunity for anyone looking to boost their earnings over the festive period or who needs to find a route back into the workplace.

“We had a great response for festive roles last year and we would love to hear from anyone who worked with us then.

“With part-time, temporary roles available across the UK, there are a variety of different shift patterns on offer, making sure these roles fit around different individual needs and lifestyles.”

It comes as rival Sainsbury’s announced it was hiring for 22,000 seasonal roles for the peak period, including 2,000 at Argos.

Morrisons shared last week that it had kicked off its search for 3,500 extra workers to work in its stores, food manufacturing sites and logistics operations to meet demand over Christmas.

Aldi also launched its Christmas recruitment drive for an additional 3,000 new store employees to help meet demand during the busy trading period.
