Sainsbury’s creates 22,000 seasonal roles ahead of Christmas

Sainsbury’s has launched its recruitment drive for thousands of temporary jobs nationwide ahead of the festive season.

The supermarket looks to add 22,000 extra seasonal roles, including 2,000 at Argos.

The retailer will welcome its temporary workers earlier than usual this year, starting as early as this week to ensure there are enough staff for customers.

New team members will help Sainsbury’s and Argos serve shoppers, restock shelves and fulfill online orders by picking, packing and delivering.

Across its depots and fulfillment centres, colleagues will work in warehouses to ensure products are ready and reach stores and homes nationwide.

Temporary workers will be employed on fixed-term contracts that range from three to twelve weeks.

Sainsbury’s has also boosted its colleague discount offer from 10% to 15% every Friday and Saturday, plus 15% off at Argos every payday Friday.

In addition, temporary staff will be given a second discount card for a family member or friend at the same address, made available after four weeks of service, as well as free food during shifts.

Sainsbury’s chief people officer, Prerana Issar, said: “With Christmas just around the corner, we’re gearing up to serve our customers brilliantly this festive season.

“This is the busiest time in the retail calendar, and we are looking for people with a passion for good food who can thrive in a fast-paced environment and are committed to providing brilliant customer service.

“This is a perfect opportunity to kickstart a career with Sainsbury’s, and we can’t wait to welcome new and returning faces this Christmas.”

Rival Morrisons kicked off its search for 3,500 extra workers this Christmas to work in its stores, food manufacturing sites and logistics operations.

Aldi also launched its Christmas recruitment drive for an additional 3,000 new store employees to help meet demand during the busy trading period.
