Ikea has launched a new mattress removal and recycling scheme as part of its sustainability efforts.
The home furnishings retailer’s latest initiative will transform old mattresses into raw materials, which can then be used for new products.
Customers are required to book a collection for their mattress, either online or in-store for £40 per item.

The used items will be transported to a facility operated by mattress recycling specialist The Furniture Recycling Group (TFR), where the product will be deconstructed and separated by material.
Ikea also plans to use the TFR’s mattress rejuvenation service, which involves medical-grade sanitising of returned mattresses, in the near-future to be able to redistribute them to support local communities.
Ikea owner Ingka Investments announced in September that it would extend the initiative outside of the Netherlands and throughout Europe to help incentivise recycling among the public.
