Matches CCO Carl Tallents steps down

Matches chief commercial officer Carl Tallents has stepped down from his role following last month’s acquisition by Frasers Group.

Tallents joined Matches from Frasers Group in October 2022 amid a leadership shake-up by CEO Nick Beighton.

Prior to Matches, Tallents was the group head of luxury brands at the Mike-Ashley controlled retail group, and had previously spent five years as head of brands at Flannels.

Tallents’ resignation comes as Matches was snapped up by Frasers late last month in a £52m cut-price deal.

The takeover meant heavy losses for private equity firm Apax Partners, which is said to have invested roughly £600m into the business since buying it from the retailer’s founders six years ago.

Beighton is understood to be working closely with the Frasers team “to develop a strategy to successfully build on the underlying strength of the business whilst rapidly unlocking synergies with Frasers”.

He said being part of Mike Ashley’s rapidly growing retail empire “will give this business access to greater scale, best-in-class retail expertise and the financial stability it needs to more effectively deliver for our brand partners and our customers”.
