M&S extends price lock until Easter and drops price on food essentials

The supermarket is slashing the cost of 65 products by an average of 6%, buildng on its October price cuts on over 200 products.

The investment will also see M&S extend its price lock on 140 products until after Easter to support customers amid the ongoing cost-of-living crisis.

M&S Food managing director Alex Freudmann: “Our customers are telling us that value is still very much front of mind as we start off 2024.

“In response, we need to keep delivering on our trusted value promise – offering the best possible quality at the best possible price.

“Our value and quality perception are at their highest point in six years compared to the market but we can’t be complacent.

“We need to keep our relentless focus on quality – making sure each and every product we offer has that M&S point of difference, from raising the bar on animal welfare to leading the way in responsible sourcing. All while, of course, offering that touch of M&S magic our 30m customers know and love.”

The retailer revealed last week it was rewarding more than 9,200 employees who place a typical £150 a month into the M&S share save scheme. They will receive more than £10,000 when it pays out on 1 February thanks to a bumper Christmas.

M&S sales over the festive period had surged 8.1% to £3.6bn in the 13 weeks to 30 December, with its food business delivering revenues of £2.3bn.
