Ebay UK is scrapping selling fees for private sellers across all categories, excluding motors, in a bid to compete with fast-growing rivals like Depop and Vinted.
The move means private sellers will no longer need to pay final value fees or regulatory operating fees when selling on the platform
It comes after eBay UK scrapped selling fees for clothing in April, which led to a double-digit increase in listings for popular items such as jeans, shirts, and dresses, while keeping items out of landfill.
The online giant said it was now evolving its experience further to offer a “more streamlined and safe” selling platform.
Other changes being made include simplified selling, where shoppers can list items within minutes, using guidance about the best pricing and shipping options, alongside AI-generated descriptions and photo-enhancing tools.
Simple delivery is also being rolled out, offering sellers a tracked and fully covered delivery, prepaid by the buyer.
The retailer’s eBay Local is another new feature, allowing customers to find nearby items available for in-person collection.
While eBay Balance will also be rolled out from mid-October, giving sellers the flexibility to use their earnings to shop on the platform, promote their listings, purchase delivery labels or withdraw available funds.
Ebay UK GM Kirsty Keoghan said: “Ebay is constantly improving the marketplace experience in order to deliver on what our customers want.
“Removing selling fees across categories is designed to give buyers access to greater breadth and depth of inventory, while creating a simplified and streamlined experience for sellers.”
