Australian bootmaker RM Williams is targeting the UK’s affluent regions as its owner looks to boost its international presence.

The leather goods retailer opened its third UK store this week in Buckinghamshire’s Marlow and will open another in Cambridge in December.

The brand, including its popular Chelsea boots, will also be stocked in Selfridges, Harrods and Liberty later this month.

RM Williams opened its first UK store in Knightsbridge in 1989, however its international expansion was previously held back due to production constraints.

The brand’s chief executive Paul Grosmann told The Financial Times that the UK expansion was “putting a lot on the line” for the Australian company as it revived its international plans.

“It’s a delicate line to walk — to become globally relevant while staying true to your roots,” he said.

It is not the only Australian retailer embarking on a UK expansion, as furniture and electrical giant Harvey Norman opened its first store in England on Friday (11 October).
