Tesco has opened its delivery slots earlier to help families over the busy summer period.

The grocery giant has enabled UK shoppers to access eight weeks’ worth of home delivery and click and collect slots over the summer for the first time instead of the usual four weeks.

It has also removed its same-day charge for home deliveries and click and collect slots from selected stores. The fee previously cost shoppers £2 for home delivery and £1 for click and collect.

The retailer, which recently unveiled plans to build a new distribution hub, is also offering customers over 15,000 additional click and collect slots from stores near popular holiday destinations across the UK.

Tesco online director Rob Graham said: “Summer holidays are a busy time for all of us as we juggle family life. From days out to BBQs and picnics, we’re helping customers across the UK make the most of the summer, delivering everything they need to enjoy at home or during their holiday stay.

“This is a great time to plan ahead and let Tesco take some of the stress away from those summer activities by booking delivery or collection slots up to 8 weeks in advance.

“And, for those last-minute essentials, we’ve also removed same-day delivery fees in selected stores and increased our click and collect availability in holiday hotspots to make sure we’re there when customers need us.”

Tesco joins Deliveroo in rolling out summer services for shoppers, with the delivery giant teaming up with Boots and holiday expert Chelsea Dickenson earlier this month to deliver forgotten essentials to UK hotspots this summer.

Customers can choose from over 750 items such as sunscreen, insect repellent and pain relief to be delivered in as little as 20 minutes to more than 75 UK beaches, walking spots, and festivals.
