FatFace has entered the German market via online retailer Zalando’s platform, as it plans to enter further European markets using the same method.

The fashion brand is offering its German shoppers its men’s and womenswear ranges, alongside its premium women’s collection Copper & Black.

The move forms part of FatFace’s strategy of broadening its international presence, following “positive” initial trading in Germany. Strong revenues are also expected as autumn approaches.

FatFace head of partners, Alexandra Dalwood said: “Joining the Next family has given us the platform to drive growth and expand into new international markets.

“Our launch on Zalando marks an important step in building our global brand awareness, and we’re really pleased to be able to bring FatFace to a new audience on this platform in Germany.”

The move comes after FatFace set out to close all 23 of its stores in the US last month, as it moved its north American operations to an online-only model.

A source close to the business said rising costs and economic uncertainty had made the model unviable. The move is set to result in 145 job cuts.
