N Brown Group has placed hundreds of jobs at risk, with the launch of a 45-day consultation period.

The consultation phase is forecast to impact 270 jobs, including 200 at the online retailer’s Manchester head office and 70 at its warehouse, Drapers reported.

The consultation period is thought to have begun in mid-September and should be finished in early November.

All of the business’s departments are at risk, the publication understands.

Speaking to Drapers, an N Brown spokesperson said: “In a challenging retail environment, we are taking steps to accelerate the delivery of our strategic transformation and our new financial services offering, building a stronger, more sustainable future for our business.

“This process does require organisational change, which has unfortunately resulted in a number of roles being placed at risk of redundancy.”

They added: “We appreciate that this is a very worrying time for those impacted, and we continue to support all of our colleagues through this process.”

The move comes after the Jacamo and Simply Be owner unveiled plans to axe more than 100 roles at its Manchester headquarters last October, as it prepared to be taken private by the Alliance family.

In February, N Brown completed its £19m acquisition by Joshua Alliance, with the deal taking the company private.
