Asda has revealed a pay rise for its retail workforce, taking hourly rates to £13.10 from July.

The supermarket’s increase, which will apply to around 110,000 hourly-paid colleagues across stores and convenience formats, represents a 4% uplift and will be introduced in two stages, rising to £12.71 in April before reaching the final rate in July.

For staff working within the M25, hourly pay will rise to £13.93 in April and £14.35 from July.

The latest move marks an £80m investment and brings Asda’s total spending on retail pay to £575m since its acquisition by TDR Capital and the Issa brothers in 2021. Over that period, hourly wages have increased by around 40%.

Previously the grocery retailer offered its staff a minimum of £12.60 nationally, and £13.82 for those within the M25, following its last pay rise in October 2025.

Asda’s chief people officer James Goodman said store staff remain central to the retailer’s turnaround strategy.

“Our store based colleagues are at the core of our business and the role they play serving customers is central to our Formula for Growth turnaround plan,” he said.

“I’m pleased we’ve been able to give them an above inflation pay award and invest in this way.”

Last week, Tesco confirmed its staff are set to receive a pay rise this month, as the UK’s largest supermarket ramps up investment in frontline staff amid intensifying competition across the grocery sector.
