Sainsbury’s CEO awarded OBE in New Year’s Honour List

Sainsbury’s chief executive officer, Simon Roberts, is among those who were celebrated in His Majesty’s The King’s New Year’s Honour List today.

Roberts was awarded an OBE for services to the retail industry.

The Honour List has awarded 1157 from across the UK, focusing on those who have “gone above and beyond” for their communities.

Among those awarded are figure skaters Christopher Dean and Jayne Christensen (Torvill), who will receive a Knighthood and Damehood, respectively.



Also on the list is Wicked star Cynthia Ervio who is being awarded an MBE, and Idris Elba, who will receive a Knighthood for services to young people.

The director of the Confederation of British Industry Scotland, Michelle Ferguson, will be awarded an OBE for services to the economy and Akin Onal, founder and chief executive officer of MORI, will receive an OBE for services to entrepreneurship.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer said: “This year’s Honours list celebrates the very best of Britain – people who put the common good ahead of themselves to strengthen communities and change lives.

“Their quiet dedication speaks to the decent, compassionate country we are proud to be. On behalf of the whole nation, thank you – and congratulations to everyone recognised today.”
