Dobbies has revealed its first UK store with a new cottage kitchen foodhall, with 47 more shops set to follow in the coming weeks.

The garden centre is launching its new foodhalls under its transformation strategy as it separates from its grocery partner Waitrose. The business said its York site was the first to revamp its foodhall.

Dobbies said its new foodhall reflected its commitment to investing in its York shop and responding to what local shoppers wanted.

The foodhall launched with a series of introductory offers, such as 30 per cent off Farmhouse biscuits and Belgid’Or chocolates.

The foodhall with feature over 1500 items, including sweet treats, deli foods, crisps and snacks, and premium frozen ranges.

Its selection of gift foods are set to increase, with a wider range of alcohol and premium soft drinks.

Dobbies York general manager Darren Dixon said: “The foodhall is one of the most popular areas in the store and an important part of our garden centre experience.

“We’ve been working hard on the new format that’s inspired by a cottage kitchen garden and brings together essentials, treats and seasonal variety through a range of both popular and new brands.

“We’re excited to welcome customers in to see the new ranges and try them for themselves.”

The move comes after Dobbies recorded a decline in earnings over the last two years in August, during its first accounts since 2023.

The business reported results covering both 2023 and 2024 due to the timing of its restructuring disrupting its usual schedule.

The company’s sales came in at £270 million over the 2024 financial year, with a loss at underlying EBITDA level of £1.7 million.

Revenues also slumped to £257 million from February 2024 to February 2025, while its loss increased to £6.2 million.
