Uber Eats customers can now earn Nectar points when ordering groceries from Sainsbury’s, as the three businesses expand their rewards partnership.

Shoppers will collect one Nectar point for every £1 spent on Sainsbury’s groceries through the Uber Eats app or website.

The scheme is available across more than 1,300 Sainsbury’s stores in the UK, giving customers access to loyalty rewards when using the rapid-delivery platform for fresh food, household essentials and last-minute purchases.

Customers must link their Nectar card to their Uber Eats account before placing an order, after which points will be added automatically on eligible spending.

The launch expands an existing partnership that already allows Nectar members to exchange their points for Uber vouchers, which can be used towards rides or food deliveries.

It means customers can now both collect and redeem Nectar points across the Uber platform, strengthening the connection between Sainsbury’s loyalty programme and the delivery app.

Uber Eats general manager for grocery and retail in the UK Katie Hunter said: “We know how much Uber Eats customers love Nectar, so bringing points directly to their Sainsbury’s orders was a no-brainer.

“Now, they can collect Nectar points on all their Sainsbury’s essentials as well as spending them across the entire Uber app. It’s all about delivering flexibility, convenience and value for customers right alongside their favourite groceries.”

To redeem points, shoppers must open the Nectar app, visit its partners section and exchange their balance for an Uber voucher. The voucher can then be used against a future Uber journey or Uber Eats order.

Sainsbury’s chief technology, marketing and data officer Mark Given said the expansion would give Nectar members more ways to access value through the partnership.

He added: “Nectar members can already turn their points into Uber rides or Uber Eats treats — and now they can collect points when ordering Sainsbury’s groceries through Uber Eats too.

“It’s another way we’re helping customers get more from Nectar, whether they’re stocking up on essentials, planning dinner or making everyday life that little bit easier.”

The move comes as supermarkets and delivery platforms increasingly use loyalty benefits to encourage customers to order groceries through third-party apps.

For Sainsbury’s, the integration extends Nectar beyond its own stores and digital channels, while allowing the grocer to offer rewards to shoppers who favour the speed and convenience of rapid delivery.

It also gives Uber Eats another tool to strengthen customer retention within its growing grocery and retail operation, where it competes with supermarket-owned delivery services and other on-demand platforms.

Customers can begin collecting points by adding their Nectar card details within the Uber Eats app, selecting groceries from a participating Sainsbury’s store and completing their order as usual.
