JD Sports has expanded its flagship store at Meadowhall shopping centre, marking a “major investment” from the sports fashion retailer.

The opening signals “strong retailer confidence” in the shopping centre’s commercial performance and catchment, according to the business.

The new 29,225 sq ft store, which is located on Meadowhall’s lower high street, is three times the size of the sportswear retailer’s former space at the destination.

Having combined five units to create a new store with a 63m frontage, the relocation represents “a major commitment” to the shopping centre.

The expanded store enables JD to showcase “an enhanced retail concept to meet the demands of Meadowhall’s customers”.

The shop features extended product ranges from brands including Nike, Adidas, The North Face, Hoka, Salomon and Saucony.

JD director of group real estate and acquisitions James Air said: “We’re proud to be expanding our presence in Meadowhall, creating a prime megastore at the heart of the region.

“This investment reflects our commitment to the city and gives customers access to an even bigger selection of the world’s leading sports, fashion and lifestyle brands, all within a phenomenal, high-spec new retail space. We can’t wait to welcome shoppers through the doors.”

British Land retail leasing director Richard Crowther added: “When retailers choose to invest in refurbishing and upsizing their stores, it is a clear signal of both the success they are seeing today and the future potential they see in the destination.

“JD Sports’ impressive new 63m frontage brings a new level of vibrancy to the high street, while creating an engaging store environment that reflects the brand’s unique identity.

“We are always looking for ways to enhance Meadowhall’s offer through new brands and concepts.

“This latest deal is a great example of how we are working alongside leading retailers to deliver the best possible experience for our shoppers and support the long-term success of the destination.”
