The Perfume Shop recently celebrated the first anniversary of its boutique concept.

Designed to “elevate the traditional perfume shopping experience,” the concept stores combine “carefully curated premium and niche perfume brands with expert perfume consultations, personalised recommendations and an immersive retail environment that encourages customers to discover something new”.

The fragrance retailer opened its concept stores in July 2025 at Brent Cross and Lakeside shopping centres.

Its first birthday comes as demand for niche perfumes “continues to grow,” according to the fragrance specialist.

The milestone marks one year of the business “helping customers discover premium and niche perfume brands in-store and online” via “immersive retail experiences, expert guidance and carefully curated collections”.

“A more personal, immersive shopping experience”

The Perfume Shop managing director Gill Smith explains that it launched its boutique concept because it “recognised that more customers were looking to discover premium and niche perfume brands alongside the designer perfumes they already loved”.

“We wanted to create a more personal, immersive shopping experience where customers could explore new scents with expert guidance and discover something that feels unique to them,” she says.

“Over the past year, we’ve seen that appetite continue to grow.”

The Perfume Shop Designed around “discovery,” the boutique concept stores bring together over 223 premium and niche perfumes across 22 brands, Smith says.

In terms of their location, she notes that its concept stores “sit directly alongside” its existing The Perfume Shop stores, “making it easy for customers to explore both” during one sitting.

“We also offer customers the opportunity to experiment with the growing layering trend, particularly through brands like Maison Margiela, helping them create a more individual scent,” shares Smith.

“We’ve continued to evolve the range over the past year with new additions including Tom Ford Private Blend and Told London.”

An 100 per cent ‘customer love’ score

The boutique concept stores seem to have been performing well, with the sites pulling in an impressive 100 per cent ‘customer love’ score.

Smith notes that the most successful element of boutique concept stores has been “creating a genuine destination for perfume discovery”.

“Customers have embraced the opportunity to explore new brands with expert guidance,” she says.

“We’ve also seen Brent Cross attract new customers, while Lakeside has built a loyal base of returning and VIP shoppers, showing the concept can both recruit and retain customers.”

However, she points out that “launching any new retail concept is a learning process”.

“Our focus has been on listening to customer feedback, evolving the brand mix and ensuring our colleagues have the expertise to guide customers through a more discovery-led shopping experience,” she says.

“That approach has helped the concept continue to grow over its first year.”

Evolving the boutique experience

As The Perfume Shop heads into the second year of its boutique concept, the company highlights industry trends showing that consumers are “increasingly exploring premium and niche perfumes alongside established designer favourites”.

Consumers are also experiencing “growing interest in new brands, distinctive scent profiles and expert advice” to help them find “something that feels more personal,” according to the retailer.

The Perfume Shop Regarding its plans for the concept over the year ahead, Smith says: “Our focus is on continuing to evolve the boutique experience by introducing more premium and niche perfume brands, including Alexandre.J, Widian and Ajmal, alongside new launches from our existing partners.

“We’ll also be working more closely with our brand partners and perfumers to host exclusive in-store boutique events, giving perfume lovers the opportunity to discover more about the brands and craftsmanship behind the perfumes firsthand.”

As it stands, The Perfume Shop only has its two physical boutique concept stores at Brent Cross and Lakeside shopping centres alongside its online offering.

However, Smith says that the business has been “really encouraged” by the response to its concept over the past year.

“As we look ahead, we’ll continue working closely with landlords and reviewing opportunities across our existing estate to identify where the boutique format could work in the future,” she says.

“We don’t have any new locations to announce just yet, but watch this space.”
