BP has appointed Ian Tyler as its new chair following an extensive search, with the former interim chair taking up the role immediately.
Tyler joined BP’s board as a non-executive director in April 2025 and became interim chair in May 2026. He is also chair of Grafton Group and senior independent director of Anglo American, and has previously chaired Cairn Energy.
BP’s senior independent director Dame Amanda Blanc said Tyler had secured the confidence of the board and executive management through his “considered leadership, judgement and integrity”.
Tyler said he would lead the board’s “evolution”, adding: “I am honoured that the board of bp has appointed me as its chair.

“It has been a privilege to work directly with Meg O’Neill over the past few months and to see the impact she has had since her arrival.
“I am committed to establishing regular and transparent engagement with our shareholders, while continuing to support the wider leadership team as they deliver the performance and value our shareholders rightfully expect.”
Meanwhile, Blanc has told the board she will not stand for re-election at BP’s 2027 AGM and will step down once a successor as senior independent director has been appointed.
Tyler thanked Blanc for her “enormous contribution” to BP, while Blanc said she would leave knowing the company had a “strong foundation” with Tyler and CEO Meg O’Neill in place.
