Cotswolds Designer Outlet in Tewkesbury is preparing to hold a special switch-on evening to mark the start of the Christmas season.

A festive aroma trail, one of the UK’s tallest real Christmas trees and more than 2,000 metres of twinkling lights will be unveiled during the event on 13 November.

Visitors will be able to follow the 12 scents of Christmas trail in miniature Christmas houses across the outlet, with shoppers being challenged to guess them all correctly.

The scents will include “familiar festive favourites” as well as “a few scents that might be trickier to identify,” according to the retail destination.

A 55ft Christmas tree will also be lit up for the first time, alongside over 2,000 metres of lights across the outlet when the switch is flipped at 5pm to mark the beginning of the season.

A new experience where children can “step into a magical Christmas wonderland” to meet Father Christmas and his elves to receive a special gift is also running from 13 November to 23 December.

Additionally, the event will feature the return of the outlet’s Father Christmas post box and letter writing, as well as the installation of a giant snowglobe and a lit sleigh “for a festive photo to remember”.

The event will also include live music, the chance to personalise a Christmas stocking or present sack, food and drink, and “Christmassy pop-ups”.

Cotswolds Designer Outlet centre manager Adrian Field said: “Christmas is such a special time and we’re absolutely thrilled to be bringing even more festive magic to Cotswolds Designer Outlet this year.

“From our show stopping real Christmas tree that’s over 55ft, to the 12 scents of Christmas trail that will put everyone’s sense of smell to the test, there’s something to delight and make the visit memorable for guests of all ages.”

He continued: “We can’t wait to welcome families to meet Father Christmas and make some wonderful festive memories together.

“We’re looking forward to kicking off the season in style on 13 November and creating a truly magical atmosphere for everyone to enjoy.”
