The new stores are located in Berrylands Raeburn Avenue in southwest London and Allerton Road in Liverpool.

Each store is around 2500sq ft in size and aims to offer convenience for their local neighbourhoods.

Both stores also will offer self-service Costa Coffee machines.

As part of the retailer’s sustainability Plan for Better, Sainsbury’s has committed to using 100% renewable electricity across its entire estate, meaning that the new Locals will not rely on any fossil fuels for their heating, lighting, refrigeration and ventilation needs.

The new stores also feature the option to checkout using Mobile Pay or SmartShop, Sainsbury’s scan, pay and go technology, enabling customers to pay for products in-store using their smartphones and making the process faster and more convenient.

“I was very pleased that we were able to welcome not just one but two communities through the doors of new Sainsbury’s Locals this morning,” Sainsbury’s property director, Patrick Dunne said.

“Our new stores help us to bring more choice and flexibility to our customers and I’m looking forward to hearing their feedback about our two newest arrivals to the Sainsbury’s estate.”
