The nation could be waking up to more pre-loved gifts under the Christmas tree as more shoppers turn towards second-hand items.

About 52% of consumers are looking to buy previously owned or refurbished items this year, according to data from eBay.

More than half (56%) of shoppers still want to treat loved ones to thoughtful gifts this Christmas, with 26% intending to put more attention into sourcing meaningful presents.

With rising costs across the board, 38% of Brits are looking to get more bang for their buck this year as many intend to spend £100 or less on gifts this festive season.

eBay senior director of trading Kirsty Keoghan said: “We’re anticipating a shift to pre-loved gifting this Christmas and we want to celebrate it.

“There’s nothing better than giving a personal gift, which you know the person is really going to love and gifting pre-loved allows you to do just that.

“From luxury watches, to signed football shirts and rare trainers, pre-loved gifts are the answer to all of your Christmas shopping stresses.”

Data from eBay’s Christmas Ads Report found 29% of consumers started their Christmas shopping earlier this year to get ahead of the festive rush with many snapping up deals over the Black Friday weekend.

BDO’s High Street Tracker reported total like-for-like sales both in-store in November grew 4.1 percentage points to last year’s figures as shoppers made the most out of retailers earlier and “more substantial” discounts.
