Anya Hindmarch has teamed up with grocers Asda and Co-op as it plans to launch its fully recyclable plastic bags in UK supermarkets.

Asda will begin stocking the ‘Universal Bag’ in 300 stores from the end of this month, while Co-op will stock the tote bags from March.

The Universal Bag is reusable, durable, 100% recycled and recyclable. They are priced at £10 and come with a 10-year guarantee.

The partnership comes after the British designer collaborated with the likes of Sainsbury’s, Waitrose and Selfridges last year.

“We can do it better,” Hindmarch said on offering reusable carrier bags.

“There are something like 8bn tonnes of plastic on the planet and that is really shocking when you think about it.

“There is nothing better than using the bag you already have.”

Asda acting chief customer officer, Sam Dickson said: “We’re thrilled to partner with Anya Hindmarch on the Universal Bag project and support such an important issue.

“The opportunity to create our own exclusive version meant we were able to give our customers a great quality, sustainable product, in our trademark ‘Asda green’. I’m sure shoppers will be very excited at the prospect of picking up an Anya Hindmarch bag in store during their weekly shop and we can’t wait to see the response.”
