Ex-John Lewis COO Andrew Murphy and Mary Portas recognised in New Year Honours

Former John Lewis COO Andrew Murphy was among the business leaders recognised in the New Year Honours list.

Murphy, who recently took up the role as CEO of toy retailer The Entertainer after 30 years at the partnership, was awarded an OBE for his services to the British retail industry.

The retail boss, a judge of this year’s Retail Gazette Awards, joined John Lewis straight out of university, working his way up from the shop floor of the department store’s Aberdeen branch to eventually become COO of the group.

Retail expert Mary Portas was also awarded an OBE for services to business, broadcasting and charity.

Jane Boardman, the founding chair of the British Beauty Council, was given an OBE for her sevices to beauty and fashion.

Boardman, who is also an adviser to the British Fashion Council, helped create the British Beauty Council in 2018.
