The UK’s largest cycling retailer, Halfords, is set to more than double its premium bicycle offerings as it pedals into the UK’s high-end cycling market.

The move comes as the premium sector emerges as one of the fastest-growing segments of the cycling industry, and one that was previously underrepresented in the retailer’s range.

Halfords will increase its range of premium mechanical bikes that hold a price tag of more than £1,000 by 60%, while its premium electric bike offering, which retail at more than £1,500 will grow by 300%.

This push includes expanding its Boardman, Voodoo, and Carrera ranges. Notable additions include the full-carbon Boardman and the Voodoo Canzo Pro, described as a “trail-taming powerhouse”.

Earlier this year, Halford’s reported plunging profits amid what it described as “very tough markets” but as part of a new strategic direction, the retailer aims to make high-end bikes more accessible, with plans for even pricier models in 2025.

“The new range of bikes from Halfords is a clear statement of intent to the premium cycling market,” said Halfords’ head of cycling, Katie Begley.

“It’s one of the fastest growing sectors but one which was underrepresented at Halfords. But now that is changing and significantly so.”

To make the high-end market more approachable, the chain is offering free in-store bike building, safety checks and interest-free payment plans.
