Aldi is introducing faster payment terms for small fresh produce suppliers as part of its ongoing support for British growers facing pressure from this year’s dry weather conditions.
The German discounter said it will offer quicker payments for all fresh produce suppliers with a turnover under £5m for the remainder of 2025, aiming to ease cashflow challenges amid a hotter-than-normal summer forecast.
Aldi UK chief commercial officer Julie Ashfield said: “We know smaller growers are under real pressure – from a dry spring to rising input costs – and we want to do what we can to help.
“These shorter payment terms are a small, practical step to give them quicker access to cash and a bit more flexibility as the season progresses.”
The new payment initiative takes effect immediately, with eligible suppliers invited to apply.
It forms part of Aldi’s broader commitment to maintaining fair, long-term relationships with British farmers.
The retailer also reaffirmed its dedication to upholding the UK’s food safety and animal welfare standards, pledging to maintain these even if regulations are relaxed under future international trade deals — rules that currently prohibit imports such as chlorinated chicken and hormone-treated beef.
