Motoring specialist Halfords has hired Adam Pay as its new managing director of garages.
The executive takes over from Karen Bellairs, who is set to continue at the company as its chief customer officer.
Pay joins the business’s executive team and will report directly to Halfords’ CEO Henry Birch.
The exec brings more than 20 years of senior operational experience in the automotive and service sectors. He most recently served as managing director of Australian vehicle repair and maintenance firm Mycar.
He also worked as managing director of Kmart Tyre and Auto in Australia from May 2013 until April 2019.
Additionally, Pay served as operations manager for Kwik-Fit in the UK from May 1996 until January 2005.
Birch said: “Adam is an outstanding leader with deep industry expertise and a proven track record of driving operational excellence at scale.
“I’m delighted to welcome him to the executive team. With Adam at the helm of our garage services division, we’re well-positioned to accelerate growth and continue delivering for our customers.”
The move comes after Halfords updated its management structures at the top of its business last year, in a bid to to oversee better delivery of programmes and better accountability for business performance by channel.
In June, Halfords reported a better-than-expected annual performance, as its motoring-first strategy continued to gain traction and its Fusion rollout began to pay off.
The retailer saw underlying profit before tax increase 6.4% to £38.4m for the 52 weeks to 28 March 2025, coming in above its previously guided range of £32m to £37m. Additionally, group like-for-like sales jumped 2.5%.
