Asos promotes Mark Holland to chief operating officer

Asos has announced the appointment of Mark Holland to take on the newly-created role of chief operating officer.

The role is a promotion for Holland, who has worked for the online fashion retailer for six years and is currently a member of its executive board.

His most recent position was supply chain director, where he oversaw Asos’ global trading, customer care and supply chain functions.

In his new role as chief operating officer, Holland continue to lead those departments but also add the management and delivery of Asos’ transformation projects to his responsibilities.

These include the forthcoming launch and automation of its new warehouse in Atlanta, US, the move to a new retail planning and merchandising system with Truly Global Retail, further automation at Asos’ Berlin fulfilment centre, and improvements at its London headquarters and customer care centre in Leavesden.

Holland will also continue to report to Asos chief executive Nick Beighton.

“Mark’s well-deserved appointment is a reflection of the significant contribution he has made to the business over the last six years and the skills he possesses, which will be invaluable to us as we position ourselves for further growth,” Beighton said.

Holland’s appointment comes less than two months after Asos poached Britvic’s Matthew Dunn for the role of chief financial officer.

Asos said its multi-year investment in technology and logistics continued to drive results and is key to sustaining the strong momentum across the business.

For its fiscal year ending August 31, retail sales grew by 26 per cent to £2.53 billion and profit was up 28 per cent at £102 million.

Despite this, Asos still had tough targets and bosses missed out on bonuses for the first time in four years after the retailer failed to achieve them.

Beighton also had his base salary frozen at £565,000 and missed out on a bonus payout worth hundreds of thousands.
