Asda seeks new finance director ahead of stock market return

Asda has reportedly started the search for a new finance boss amid preparations for a return to the stock market.

According to The Sunday Times, headhunters from Heidrick & Struggles have been drafted in to find someone who can help lead the Big 4 grocer’s public listing.

The news comes after Rob McWilliam took up the role in August 2018 on a fixed term contract, which currently runs until the end of 2020..

Asda parent company Walmart has previously stated it was seeking a stock market float in light of the collapse of its proposed merger with Sainsbury’s.

In May, Walmart boss Judith McKenna said it was “seriously considering” an IPO for Asda, although she said the company was “not rushing” the move and that Asda’s return to public ownership would “take years”.
