Schuh has announced details of the first wave of store reopenings ahead of the lifting of lockdown restrictions on non-essential shops in England next week.

The footwear retailer plans to relaunch the majority of its stores in England from June 15, although they will initially operate on reduced hours.

Schuh said reopened stores will also have a range of Covid-19 health and safety measures in place.

These include Schuh staff being provided with PPE and the introduction of in-store hand sanitisers and enhanced cleaning regimes.

There will also be a limit on customer numbers allowed in store at any one time, and floor layouts will be reorganised to allow for social distancing.

Schuh added that all shoes that are tried on but not purchased will be sprayed with disinfectant before being put back into stock.

Furthermore, customer returns will be quarantined for a full 72 hours before being put back on shelves.

Schuh said two of its Channel Island stores that reopened in the last fortnight have had an encouraging start.

“The Schuh management team will continue to monitor the situation and will update any safety measures in response to any changed guidance,” Schuh said in a statement.

“Stores reopening is critical to Schuh’s recovery plan so every decision taken is very carefully considered and plans will be constantly reviewed to ensure they are working.”
