Grocers Tesco and Waitrose are set to launch click and collect hubs at London‘s tube stations after Asda‘s recent trial was heralded as a success.
Tesco will install facilities at tube stations from February in the capitals outskirts in Osterly, Newbury Park, Rayners Lane, Finchley Central, Arnos Grove and Cockfosters.
Andrew Yaxley, Tesco Managing Director for London, said: “The additional TfL pick-up locations will give even greater flexibility to our customers because they will have more options to collect their shopping at a time and location that‘s most convenient to them.”
Tube locations for Waitrose will be announced over the coming months but it was confirmed they will follow Asda into car park sites.
Robin Phillips, Waitrose Director, Ecommerce, said collection lockers would unlock the potential to reach customers in locations where it didn‘t have a shop.
Parcel firm InPost, which is determined to establish a nationwide network of parcel lockers accessible 24/7, will install lockers at 3 stations.
Independent retailers Rockflower and LOLA‘s Cupcakes have also jumped on board with the “worlds first retail and vending flower kiosk” opening at Blackfriars Underground station last week. Andrew McAlpine, CEO of Rockflower said he was delighted that TfL “shared our vision” to bring London‘s commuters fresh flowers at all hours.
Transport for London (TfL) did not confirm the value of the deals but said resulting revenue would be reinvested into its tube network.
Amazon has been tipped to take further space at tube stations after TfL announced in November that the tube will run 24 hours a day on weekends. The firm could sell its products through tube ticket offices which are due to close by 2015.
