Parcel giant DHL Supply Chain says it is delivering a huge uplift in online orders for department store Debenhams this Christmas.

Demand has already rocketed by up to 300 percent on average levels, reaching the figure during the peak customer ordering periods.

Of the 150,000 product lines DHL manages for Debenhams, so far Calvin Klein men‘s underwear, the Vtech Playtime Bus and ‘Hello Kitty‘ body art transfer set and beauty box are proving most popular.

To manage the demand, DHL warehouses in Sherburn and Peterborough are operating 24/7 with over 2,000 additional people being employed by the firm over the Christmas period – an uplift of 400 per cent on normal staffing levels.

According to Debenhams, mobile sales are proving a strong growth area with online sales up around 40 per cent on last year, making 2013 a truly ‘e-Christmas‘.

The firm reported a 5.1 per cent increase of revenue last year to 55.5 euros.
