Sainsbury‘s digital director Jon Rudoe is to join the grocers operating board as digital and technology director.

The firm said the move recognised the rapidly growing importance of online and digital sales channels.

Rudoe joined Sainsbury‘s in July 2011 as director of online and led the grocery and non-food online business before leading Sainsbury‘s digital strategy in March 2013.

Jon Rudoe said: “Technology is a key part of our future vision, right across the customer experience and as a vital tool for our 157,000 colleagues, and I want to put it at the heart of everything we do to serve our customers.”

Sainsbury‘s online business recently hit the £1bn sales mark.

CEO Justin King, who leaves the supermarket this summer, said Rudoe would provide “fantastic support” for him and Mike Coupe.

The news comes as Sainsbury‘s property director Neil Sachdev is standing down after seven years in the business.

King added: “I‘d like to thank both Neil and Rob for the significant contribution they have made to Sainsbury‘s, and we wish them the very best for the future.”
