Amazon has announced it will hire 2,500 full-time positions for its US fulfilment centres as it posted a 20 per cent jump in revenue for the fourth-quarter.

The retailer‘s stringent hiring process is well known in the industry and prospective employees must be able to work all shifts for up to 10-12 hours a day.

The jobs are available at centres in Chester, Dupont, Coffeyville, Murfreesboro, Columbia, and Petersburg.

Amazon say median pay inside Amazon fulfilment centres is 30 per cent higher than “traditional retail jobs.”

“Last year, we hired more than 20,000 people into full-time jobs across our U.S. fulfilment centers – with more than half starting as seasonal employees,” said Mike Roth, Amazon‘s vice president of North America operations. “Today, we‘re excited to announce 2,500 full-time jobs, bringing new employment opportunities to local communities across the country.”

UK sales growth at Amazon slowed by half last year as John Lewis and Dixons improved their click and collect services in the wake of consumer demand for ‘bricks and clicks services.‘
