Cath Kidston has announced her departure from her role as Non-Executive Director of her brand, best known for its floral prints.

Kidston, 58, has spent two decades building the international brand, originating from a single Holland Park “junk shop” in West London. She will be retiring from the retailer after this year’s annual meeting to focus on other business projects, according to The Times.

Kidston stepped down from her role as Chief Creative Designer in 2014, but will remain a shareholder of the brand, with more than a 10% stake.

“When I opened my first shop in 1993 I never imagined that it would grow into a global phenomenon,” Kidston said on her decision to step down in 2014.

“We knew she would step down and this has been a planned transition” said Chief Executive Kenny Wilson.
