Online retailer Zalando is planning an own-label division as a standalone business as it attempts to tap untapped markets and challenge rivals.

The news comes as investors reportedly expressed concern over Amazon‘s growth into fashion.

The German-based etailer‘s own-labels chief Jan Wilmking predicted the own-label business would grow between 20 and 25 per cent every year – a similar rate to the rest of Zalando.

“We see great potential,” Wilmking told Reuters.

“We want to strengthen the brands outside of Zalando.”

Zalando currently operates in 15 European markets– including the UK – with more than 1500 brands in its portfolio, including own-label.
