Fashion retailer Guess is poised to open its first bricks-and-mortar store in the north east of England at Intu Metrocentre.

Guess, which currently only has 12 stores in England‘s south and north west, has agreed terms for a 3853sq ft store at the Gateshead shopping centre that will open in summer.

It joins a growing list of upmarket retailers moving into Metrocentre in recent months, such as Flannels, Kurt Geiger and Tessuti, and Hugo Boss.

“Guess will be the second international fashion brand to launch at intu Metrocentre this year, reflecting the confidence that exists in the centre and the north east region as a place where overseas and aspirational retailers can flourish,” Intu regional director Kate Grant said.

“Our ongoing investment in the centre is continuing to attract these aspirational brands and bringing a smile to the increasing number of affluent shoppers visiting intu Metrocentre.”

Last month, Guess also announced plans to open a flagship in Liverpool at the Liverpool One shopping centre, which it set to open this spring.
