H&M has opened a new shop in Gateshead’s Metrocentre, which focuses on sustainability and a great level of curation.

The store offers a new interior look and feel for the brand that puts customer experience and sustainability first.

The new shop also stocks a lower volume of products, which are displayed in a curated way.

“H&M Metrocentre has a welcoming, modern and meaningful shopping experience were style, creativity and culture are celebrated,” H&M UK & Ireland Country Manager Toni Galli said.

The Metrocentre store also offers H&M’s Garment Collection and Recycling service.

Launched in 2013, H&M’s Garment Collection and Recycling scheme allows customers to donate any unwanted clothes and textiles, by any brand, whilst shopping in-store.

All donated items are recycled with 0% going to landfill.

To encourage customers to use their Garment Collection programme, H&M offer Conscious Points in addition to a digital voucher.

Galli said: “We are extremely excited to open our Metrocentre store today. It’s always our aim to offer our customers a modern and meaningful shopping experience and we are confident that our new store at the Metrocentre, which offers our beloved Home concept and new services, we will offer exactly this.”

Metrocentre senior asset manager Ben Cox said: “Over the past year we’ve been working on delivering an ambitious business plan to reinvigorate Metrocentre and attract major international brands and new occupiers.

“The investment by H&M, and introduction of the region’s first H&M Home, demonstrates Metrocentre’s position as a leading retail destination. It is set to be an exciting couple of months for the centre.”
