Fashion retailer Matchesfashion is ramping up its online operations by opening a new distribution centre in west London.

The new facility situated near Heathrow Airport is set to open in 2018 and will create 200 jobs for the surrounding area.

Hailed as a “significant evolution” in the retailer‘s operation the new hub reportedly has potential to grow to more then 500,000sq ft and handle more than 4 million shipments by 2020.

“This is a significant evolution of our logistics operation as the business experiences continued strong growth and achieves increased scale,” chief executive Ulric Jerome said.

“This development will further strengthen our reputation for the best in class luxury service globally.”

Matchesfashion announced earlier this month that Apax won the bidding war to become its majority shareholder in a deal worth an estimated £800 million.

Currently the retailer employs 500 people and operated from five physical stores across the UK. Its online operation already sees it deliver to 176 countries stocking more than 450 brands.
