Retail Gazette Loves: Argos’s Mew-Tube channel

Black Friday is finally here, and people across the UK are sharpening their elbows in preparation for the carnage that will undoubtedly dominate the high street.

In an effort to quell some of the stress, retail giant Argos, who itself is offering a raft of Black Friday deals, has launched a “Mew-Tube” channel.

This “re-tail” therapy is a live stream of four kittens playing in a pen littered with goods available at Argos for them to play with.

It has been designed to calm the nerves of stressed and busy shoppers.

“We know that Black Friday can feel a little overwhelming for some people as they search for the best deals, so we took this opportunity to offer a calming solution in the midst of what is, for many, a shopping frenzy,” Argos digital director Mark Steel said.

“The calming impact that animals have on people is well documented, so our kitten stream is designed to offer the ultimate take-a-break moment – a ‘paws’ for breath.”
