Superdry drafts former Burberry & Debenhams execs to the board

Superdry has named Dennis Millard and John Smith as its new senior independent director and non-executive director respectively.

Millard and Smith will join the fashion retailer’s board of directors on February 1.

Millard will be part of the nomination and remuneration committees while Smith will be part of the remuneration and audit committees.

Millard was the senior independent director at Debenhams up until January this year, and since then he has gone on to become chairman of Halfords and deputy chairman and senior independent director of Pets at Home.

Meanwhile, Smith was chief operating officer of Burberry until June this year and before that he was a non-executive director at the luxury fashion brand.

“[Millard and Smith] bring skills and experiences which will strengthen the board and help deliver the next stage of our growth strategy and progress towards becoming a global digital brand,” Supergroup chairman Peter Bamford said.

“Dennis has extensive PLC board experience including roles as chairman and senior independent director of major retail companies.

“John has had direct experience of building global brands and developing digital capabilities in the fashion and creative industries.”

The news comes as Superdry’s current senior independent director confirms he would step down from the role on February q but will stay on as a non-executive director.

At the end of March, he will also step down from the audit committee.
