Matalan has opened two stores in Malta and two in Gibraltar, as it prepares for further store launches in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Armenia and Bahrain this year.
The British retailer said the new stores in Malta and Gibraltar offer 80 new jobs within their respective areas, and bring Matalan’s international franchise store count to 29.
The value fashion retailer opened its first international franchise store in Jordan in 2010 and since then it has expanded into Bahrain, Qatar, the UAE, Oman, Armenia, Malta and Gibraltar.
This year, it will open additional stores in the UAE cities of Abu Dhabi and Dubai, as well as Armenia and Bahrain.
Matalan said it had plans to enter new countries in 2019 and beyond.
“Matalan’s great product offer, harnessed with our outstanding value for the family and home, give us a unique proposition which often isn’t very well catered for in many countries,” international director Damian Hopkins said.
“As a result our international stores are performing very well, and we are delighted to be bringing this outstanding quality and value to modern families across the globe.”
In the UK, Matalan currently operates 217 stores.
