Just 3 retailers make Glassdoor’s 50 best places to work list this year

Only three retailers have made it into Glassdoor’s influential Employees’ Choice Awards list this year, dropping from four a year earlier.

Glassdoor’s annual list of the top 50 best places to work in the UK has seen the lowest number of retailers make the list in over three years.

Ikea was the top-rated retailer this year, coming in at 16th after being excluded from the top 50 list entirely last year.

Meanwhile, Screwfix dropped 12 places from 12th to number 24th this year, dropping even further since from its 9th spot in 2016.

Dunelm was also voted the 33rd best place to work this year, marking the second newcomer after failing to make the list last year.

Department store Harrods, which achieved 23rd place last year, dropped out of the top 50, alongside Waitrose and Schuh which achieved 36th and 48th places respectively last year.

The list is compiled using anonymous employee reviews of their company, including the best and worst reasons to work there alongside a rating of their chief executive, compensation and benefits, and work-life balance.

“In today’s tight labour market, job seekers are in the driver’s seat when it comes to deciding where to work and they want to know the inner workings of a company before accepting a new job,” Glassdoor chief economist Andrew Chamberlain said.

“To help people find the best jobs and the best companies, the Glassdoor Employees’ Choice Awards recognise employers at the top of their game.

“For employers, we know that a satisfied and engaged workforce helps drive financial performance. Glassdoor Best Places to Work winners are strategically investing in company culture, career growth opportunities and more, which also serves as a major recruiting advantage.”
