A historic Northumberland department store has ended its 173-year family ownership after its general manager bought it for an undisclosed sum. Rutherfords of Morpeth is now owned by Chris Mitchell and comes after Richard Rutherford, the fifth generation of the family to run the store in Bridge Street, Morpeth, retired.
