Chocolate maker Montezuma’s has reportedly posted a 30 per cent sales rise thanks to its expansion across the UK high street.

The confectionery retailer said it expects a positive future for the company despite the Covid-19 pandemic, The Guardian reported.

Montezuma’s has also hired more staff to support its expansion.

The business has signed for two new shops to open before the end of the year, with the appointment of an extra 10 employees per store.

The company, which was founded in 2000, has six branches in the south-east of England, including Brighton, Chichester and Winchester.

It is planning two four new openings every 12 months, typically in market towns, over the next five years.

Montezuma’s is recognised for its ethical sourcing and eco-packaging and also sells online via retailers such as Waitrose, Sainsbury’s and Ocado.

Big 4 grocer Tesco will be stocking the brand from September.

Montezuma’s managing director Bruce Alexander said the retailer generated 20 per cent of its sales from physical stores prior to the pandemic, and being forced to close them during lockdown had a “dramatic impact” on trading.

However, sales managed to improve post-lockdown, with sales set to reach £10 million this year.
