Burberry non-exec director Dame Carolyn McCall resigns

Dame Carolyn McCall is set to step down from the board of Burberry, just weeks after chief executive Marco Gobbetti announced his own resignation.

McCall will retire as an independent non-executive director of Burberry on April 2 next year.

She first joined Burberry board as non-executive director in September 2014 and has been senior independent director since 2020 – a role in which she will continue for the remainder of her time on board.

McCall best known as the first female chief executive of ITV and was previously easyJet chief executive for seven years.

“I want to thank Carolyn for her outstanding service to Burberry as an independent non-executive director and senior independent director since joining our board in September 2014 and look forward to her continuing counsel for the remainder of her time with us,” Burberry chairman Gerry Murphy said.

McCall’s resignation from the Burberry board comes just over two weeks after it was revealed that Gobbetti set to step down from the top job at the end of this year after almost five years in the role.
