Asos chairman Adam Crozier is reportedly expected to resign as chairman of the online fashion retailer to join BT in the same role.

BT has picked the former chief executive of Royal Mail and ITV to be its new chairman.

Crozier is understood to have edged out three other final candidates for the BT chairmanship, The Sunday Times reported.

The appointment comes as BT plans to roll out full-fibre broadband to 25 million premises by 2026, having received favourable terms in March from the industry regulator Ofcom on the returns its Openreach subsidiary can make from the investment.

It faces stiffer competition from rivals such as the merged Virgin Media O2, which last month unveiled plans to upgrade more than 14 million properties over the next seven years.

Crozier first emerged as a corporate leader at Saatchi & Saatchi, becoming joint head of the advertising agency.

He went on to be chief executive of the Football Association, where he hired Sven-Goran Eriksson as England manager, then became chief executive of Royal Mail.

He took the chair at Asos in 2018 and had to guide it through IT problems at its warehouses.

At BT, Crozier will be expected to stabilise the board and help manage BT’s relationships with Ofcom.
