// Wilko will allow shoppers to bring dogs and cats into 248 of its stores
// The move has received a mixed response with some shoppers concerned about badly behaved dogs disrupting the shopping environment
Wilko has rolled out pet-friendly shopping in two thirds of its stores with dogs and cats welcome in 248 of its outlets.
The participating stores are primarily those with their own on-street entrances rather than those located in shopping centres.
The variety retailer has installed signage at store entrances to make it clear that dogs and cats are welcome after a successful pilot at two shops.
However, pets must be kept on leads and will not allowed to shop in the food aisles of stores.
Wilko posted this news on its Facebook page and it has gained a lot of attention from social media users. Almost 10,000 have commented on the news and opinion has been divided.

While some have celebrated the move, others fear badly behaved dogs will impact the shopping experience.
Wilko replied to one commenter: “A huge number of our customers think of their pet as a member of their family, which is why we think it’s important to welcome them in store wherever possible.”
