Next confirms opening date for Oxford Street Gap concession

Next has confirmed that Gap’s new concession at its Oxford Street store is set to open on March 14 2022.

The fashion retailer will join other names under the Next webstore including Sockshop, O2, Lipsy and Paperchase at the Oxford Street store, with new signage informing shoppers of the upcoming location.

The news was first announced via billboard posters near the store and follows the agreement announced in September 2021, where the two retailers formed a joint venture to operate Gap-branded shop-in-shop concessions at select Next retail locations called The Next Total Platform.

Next owns a 51% majority of the joint venture, while Gap will own the remaining 49%.

The Next Total Platform is an online site for fashion brands which allows them to piggyback off Next’s own ecommerce expertise.

Gap Global chief executive and president, Mark Breitbard said in a statement given to TheIndustry: “Gap is partnering with Next, one of the UK’s leading online clothing retailers, to amplify our omnichannel business and meet our customers in UK & Ireland where they are shopping now.”

“Next is delighted at the prospect of its Total Platform supporting Gap on the next stage of development of their world-renowned brand in the UK and Ireland,” Next chief executive, Lord Wolfson said.

The London store concession comes ahead of Next’s upcoming openings of department store-style flagship stores at the Atria shopping centre in Watford in April, measuring almost 95,000 sq ft, and at Manchester’s Trafford Centre mall featuring a 65,000 sq ft store opening in November.

Both stores will feature a range of fashion, beauty, homewares own- and third-party brands.
